Chemistry is part of our everyday lives. The food often we eat undergoes a chemical reaction, such as baking a cake. The medicines that we use are developed in a pharmaceutical chemistry lab. The gasoline you used to drive your automobile, the plastic bottle to hold your water, and the smoke detector that keeps you and your family safe are all advances through study of chemistry.

In chemistry you will study the chemical properties of materials. How and why elements combine, properties of matter, and chemical reactions are all part of the study of chemistry. In a chemistry lab, there are endless experiments to understand the world of chemistry. Chemistry labs are exciting and interesting; because they pertain to the way we live and advance our lives. Determine how rust works through oxidation, how your body digests food through chemical reactions, or study osmosis and learn how plants acquire the nutrients they need to live.

Employment opportunities in t he world of chemistry and science are continually in demand. A bachelor’s degree and often a master’s degree are required for many of these jobs. Chemistry jobs are found in industry, education, medical, military fields. Chemistry majors advance to careers as chemists, medical research, environmental lawyers, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, plastics industry, chemical engineering, agricultural chemists, military chemists, professors and researchers, and the list continues.
